Like a Cold (November) August Rain…

Monday, August 25th, 2008

So we finally are out from under Fay (the tropical storm) that probably did more damage if it had been an actual Hurricane. Rain for 4 1/2 days!!! Stuck inside with your 2 kids for 4 1/2 days!!!! Can you say AAAAHHHHHH!!!!! If school wasn’t open today, I was going to take them there any way. You might think I would have sewn or knitted a lot. Oh no! The kids were driving us nuts! We made it through….no injuries. Now I know why people have irritable bowel syndrome!

I had done some sewing before the rain started and thought I could get some pics taken before the storm hit.
That didn’t happen either. Finally the sun comes out and pics are taken. Here’s my newest creations. I have a lunch box made out of this print. It’s so fun. I had to make a shirt out of it. I found some denim stripe just perfect for pants. If you notice the bottom of the pants are raveled to look like pirate pants. Hence the swords. Yes, we had to buy two swords so you can protect yourself when he comes after you wanting to play “Captain Jack Sparrow”. Everyone needs some swashbuckling at sometime or another…..right? I can’t wait till he’s able to scuba dive and we can take him to see some old ships on the bottom of the ocean. What better way to understand the true meaning of “walk the plank”. AAARRRGGGHHHH! Ok, I probably don’t make the best pirate but my son likes it!
I bought this owl print on one of my yahoo groups and have fallen in love with it. It’s owls, kind of like amigurumi. I though a hoodie would be perfect out of it. I put a pocket on the front and made it short sleeve so a long sleeve shirt could be worn under it for more warmth if needed. The skirt is two skirts sewn into one waist band. It looks cute on her. I hope someone else likes it as much as I do and buys it!!!! It would make a cool Halloween time shirt.

My husband has informed me that we have another storm (this time a hurricane) heading our way. Well at least now they are predicting it to come this way. One thing I have learned from living a short time in FL (13 years) They never get the weather right. Should be here Thursday but probably later. Hey guess what… more days home from school!!!! Yeah, I just can’t wait! Someone call the “funny farm” and tell them to hold a bed for me…..Do you think they will allow me to have knitting needles there?

Later.

Skulls, Mermaids, and sparrows, Oh My!!

Tattoos, tattoos, and more tattoos. I’ve always wanted a tattoo but I couldn’t decide what I might still want on me at
60-70. Plus I can’t stick with a design for more than 6 months. So I guess for now I will just
stick to fabrics with really cool tattoos on them. I have a really cool tshirt that had Angelina’s tattoos on the inside so when you wore it, it looked like you had tattoos. It was a cool thought but the tshirt was made out of a thin cotton (so the designs will show through) and it got holes really quick. I was really upset.
But I did find this awesome fabric. Here are my first two designs with it. I love them. I went with a 50′s bowling shirt theme. And to spice it up I paired it with plaid striped shorts. The plaid is different plaids in strips sewn together then I made them into shorts. It looks good especially on my son.

Then for the girls I made a simple dress with red and pink plaid accents to show off the tattoos. It’s a little small for my daughter but I thought she looks good with the leggings. The tattoos on the dress are just a larger print from the ones on the shirt. The tattoos seem to come from the likes of Sailor Jerry, Harley Davidson, Captain Jack Sparrow, and many others.

As far as knitting goes. I have done something I’m not sure of. I have entered a contest called Hat Attack 2 on Ravelry. It is a killed or be killed by knitting. You have a specific day when you get to see the pattern. The object is to knit the hat and send it to your “victim” before you get “killed” by the one someone is sending you in the mail. It sounds like fun. If you are interested go to ravelry.com and look for Hat Attack 2 under the groups. I can’t wait and I will let you know what happens. They have some great shirts for it…….I sitz, I knitz, I killz. I love it.

Also I have entered my first swap. Day of the Dead swap no doubt. This is where you get to learn more about a person
the “spoilee” and for a month you get to send them emails and cards and make them feel special. Then at the end of the of the designated period you get to send them a package with some really cool stuff in it. Depending on their personality, you can really put some cool stuff in the package. The moderators like for you to use homemade stuff which is cool for me and you can only spend $30. So I have just received my “spoilee” Raquel. “Rocky” is her nickname. She seems to be a cool person from her blog. Here’s the link http://www.rockinknit.com what a really cool name for a blog. She’s a new knitter like me. I’ll let you know how this goes also.

Well, It’s pouring rain here Hurricane Fay is finally getting us wet and we just started school Monday and already had 2 days off. And being cooped up in the house with 2 kids….my husband and I are about to go crazy. I feel like I have been on my kids butts for 2 days. They won’t leave each other alone!!! So I’m off to relax and relish in the feeling that my daughter gets to go back to school tomorrow. Yeah!!! Peace, love and skulls!!!
